This is undoubtedly the most loved Good Friday hymn ever. There is already a video of a version of it on my channel. This “remix” is especially for David who prefers the traditional melody (along with thousands of others). :)) David also singlehandedly promotes this channel. I hope you have a quiet and contemplative Good Friday and Easter.
This simple (almost) acapella version was recorded live at Spring Harvest 1996 with Noel Richards leading worship. It was previously unreleased until it showed up on the Celebrating 25 Years of Spring Harvest compilation CD. (It’s always worth buying the compilations for gems like this!)

Lyrics
Written by Isaac Watts
WHEN I SURVEY THE WONDROUS CROSS
On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.
Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
Save in the death of Christ my God:
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to His blood.
See from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down:
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?
Were the whole realm of Nature mine,
That were an offering far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all!
